Questions

Answered plainly.

How much does an address trace cost?

A Standard trace is £100 and is delivered within 3 to 5 working days. Express is £150 within 48 hours. Priority is £195 within 24 hours. Firms and agencies instructing ten or more traces a month pay £85 per trace on a monthly invoice. Add a mobile number for £25, an email address for £20 or an employer for £35, each charged only where it is on file and found. You are only ever charged when we find the person.

Does money leave my account when I instruct?

No. Your card is saved by our payment provider and nothing is charged. Money leaves your account only when we deliver a current registered address rated Confirmed or Probable. Most "no find, no fee" services take payment first and refund on failure; we never take it in the first place.

Do I pay anything if you cannot find the person?

No. Your card is saved when you instruct us but nothing is charged until we deliver a current registered address. If we cannot, you pay nothing and there is nothing to refund.

What exactly do I receive?

A dated report with the person’s current registered UK address and our confidence rating: Confirmed, Probable or Possible. Optional extras add a mobile number, an email address or an employer where they are on file.

Is the address where they actually live?

It is the address the person is currently registered at according to the records we check. In the great majority of cases that is where they live. Occasionally someone is registered at a family member’s or partner’s address they do not sleep at, which is why every report carries a confidence rating rather than a promise.

How likely are you to find someone?

Very likely. We cross-reference more than 150 sources, registers and records and a person checks the result, so the overwhelming majority of instructions end with a current registered address. The rare exception is someone who has deliberately left no record anywhere in their own name. When that happens we tell you plainly and you are not charged.

How long does a trace take?

Standard traces are delivered within 3 to 5 working days, most sooner. Express within 48 hours. Priority within 24 hours, and the same working day when instructed before noon.

Is address tracing legal in the UK?

Yes, when it is done for a lawful purpose and in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Trace Bureau records a lawful basis for every instruction, is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, and refuses instructions that do not have one.

Who can instruct a trace?

Anyone with a legitimate reason: people owed money, landlords, solicitors, executors, businesses, process servers and individuals with a legal claim. We verify who you are before we start.

What information do you need?

Full legal name and at least one of a date of birth or a previous address. Anything else helps: other names, approximate age, phone numbers, email addresses, employer, partner or relatives.

Do you trace people abroad?

Our service covers the United Kingdom. If the evidence shows someone has moved abroad we will tell you, there is no charge, and we can quote separately for an international enquiry.

Can I trace an ex-partner or someone I am in dispute with personally?

Only where there is a legal purpose such as court proceedings, child maintenance enforcement or a debt. We do not trace people for personal reasons other than consent-based reconnection, and we refuse anything that looks like harassment.

How do you find people?

By cross-referencing more than 150 sources, registers and records and having a person check the result rather than trusting a single database. We do not publish our method, for the same reason a good locksmith does not.

What confidence levels do you use?

Confirmed means two or more independent current sources agree. Probable means strong evidence from one current source with supporting indicators. Possible means the best available lead, which we tell you rather than dress up, and which is never charged at the full fee.

Is my instruction confidential?

Yes. The person being traced is not told who instructed us unless you choose the consent-based reconnection service, where they need to know who wants to reach them.

How do firm accounts work?

Solicitors, agents and recovery firms get a shared case list, bulk upload, matter references on every case and invoice line, and a single monthly invoice paid by Direct Debit or bank transfer. Ten or more traces a month brings the price to £85.

How long do you keep my data?

Instruction and result data is kept for 12 months and then deleted, unless you have a firm account, in which case it is kept for the life of the account plus six years for audit purposes.

Who is behind Trace Bureau?

Trace Bureau was founded and is run by a professional investigator with years of experience locating people for solicitors, creditors, landlords and executors, through a UK-registered limited company whose details are at the foot of every page. Tracing does not require a licence in the UK; it requires ICO registration, a lawful basis and skill, and that experience is what you are paying for.

Ready to instruct?

Five minutes. Nothing charged until we find them.
